Contact: Ellie Schafer LESBIAN GOLF TOUR LAUNCHED FLOWER MOUND, TEXAS - It's no secret that golfing is a hot sport among lesbians. Now, there's a national golf tour aimed at the lesbian community. The foreUS Women's Golf Tour officially kicks off today, with the announcement of tournament dates for the coming year. "The goal of foreUS is simple: to provide a unique experience for the lesbian golfer by providing them a competitive and safe environment in which to play golf,'' said foreUS CEO & Executive Director Pam Dunnam. A national organization established to promote the acceptance and to increase the influence of the lesbian golfer, foreUS Women's Golf Tour offers a dynamic opportunity for participants. While the primary outreach is to the lesbian golfer, foreUS does not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. All women are welcome. The foreUS Women's Golf Tour will host a series of golf tournaments and other events throughout the year, culminating with a national championship in Las Vegas. The events are geared toward golfers of all skill levels. The golf tour will be modeled after the success of gay softball tournaments, which over the years have built a wildly popular sporting opportunity for competitive and recreational players who want to play in an environment that is fun, challenging and accepting. Dunnam announced an ambitious tour schedule, beginning with three tournaments in 2007, six in 2008 and eight in 2009. Participants will have the chance to play at different courses across the United States. The inaugural tournament will be held on March 25, 2007 at the Doral Desert Princess Golf Resort in Palm Springs, CA. That will be followed by the second tournament Aug. 11-12 in San Francisco, CA. Las Vegas Nevada will be the site of the national championship Oct 20-21. The foreUS Board of Directors consists of Pamela Dunnam; Carron Harris, vice president of operations; Ellie Schafer, vice president of public relations and marketing; Shelly Johnson, vice president of special events; and Julie Colwell, vice president of tournaments. Leslie Hahn will serve as CIO.
